Justice should never depend on income.
The Raven Community Fund exists because chaos hits the most vulnerable families first, and it was built to make justice actually accessible, not just theoretically available. Born from years of watching families get priced out of safety, stability, and representation, the Conspiracy exists to close the gap between what people need and what our systems offer.
A flock of Ravens is called a conspiracy. They're also called an unkindness... and both fit.
The "unkindness" pervasive in our legal system is intentional. Legal aid is doing powerful work, but it is limited by DOJ oversight that keeps the system working exactly as designed. In 2024 for every 10,000 people in need of legal aid services, there were only 2.8 legal aid attorneys and 92% of the same population received inadequate legal help. This is our way of using the system to beat the system. It's not charity, it's community sovereignty.

How Does it Work?
1. Mouw Law contributes one-third of their personal injury settlement into the Conspiracy
2. Community Member donations and Grant funds
3. Eligible clients receive reduced or fully funded legal services
Who the Conspiracy supports:
1. Survivors of domestic violence
2. families facing high conflict custody or divorce cases
3. Vulnerable children or adults
4. Individuals targeted by municipal or government systems
5. Marginalized or system-impacted community members
6. Community members facing eviction or housing crisis
-Our Promise-
The Raven Community Fund is not about pity. It is not about rescue. It is about returning power where power was systemically taken. We do not decide who is "deserving," we simply commit to seeing people as human. We believe every human deserves access to justice, and we also know that no single fund can meet every need. We cannot say "yes" to every request. When we must say "not this time," or "not yet," we promise to say it with respect, never shame. Shame has no home here. We promise to make decisions with:
-
Transparency
-
Integrity
-
Safety
-
Humanity
-
Non-judgment
If we cannot fund a request, because of capacity, timing, or scope: we still offer alternative community resources, provide guidance for next steps when able, share low-cost and sliding-scale options, help identify organizations or attorneys who may be able to assist, and ensure the person feels seen and not dismissed. We promise to be transparent. The Raven Community Fund is a separately held fund, similar to an IOLTA account, with the intention of being a fully functioning 501(c)(3) by the end of 2026. At that point, our goals extend far beyond Mouw Law. This is only the beginning.
How We Prioritize Requests
The Raven Community Fund focuses on cases where legal support creates immediate stability and long-term safety. We prioritize:
1. Urgent safety needs: Domestic violence, unsafe housing, threats to children, emergent custody or protection issues.
2. Cases where legal support prevents crisis: Evictions, loss of housing, loss of income, access to children, and situations that could spiral without advocacy.
3. Impact Matters: We look for cases where even a small intervention creates a big shift-- restoring peace, safety, stability, or dignity.
4. Balance & Sustainability: We are careful to protect the longevity of the Fund so it can help as many families as possible. This also means we balance both the types of cases and number of cases we take on at one time.

Our Application Process
Transparent. Simple. Dignified.
1. Initial Request: A short, respectful intake form assessing safety, required conflict check, need, and urgency.
2. Review by Fund Committee: Review by Mouw Law staff and nonprofit partners to ensure fairness, conflict, and alignment.
3. Decision + Plan: You receive a compassionate explanation, including next steps, resources, or direct support if funded. We aim to give you a definitive response within two business days if the request is urgent, within five if the request does not impact immediate safety or housing. You should always receive a confirmation that your request was received.
4. Continued Connection: Even if funding isn't possible, we won't leave you in the dark. Support continues in the form of referrals, planning help, resources, and empowerment.

Our Guiding Ethic
Help as many as we can, as sustainably as we can, with as much humanity as possible.
No guilt. No gatekeeping. No hierarchy of worthiness. Just honest, community-centered justice.
Because, here we ask one simple question:
what is the point of community if not to protect the most vulnerable?

A Note On Growth: Updated 11-26-2025
The Raven Community Fund is Growing.
As capacity expands through donations, partnerships, and grants, so will the number of cases we can take on.

Every contribution strengthens the entire Conspiracy, allowing us to protect more families, fund more justice, and close systemic gaps one case at a time.

This is only the beginning of something much bigger.
